What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, you will have all the tools you need to read the Latin of Classical Rome successfully.

We first learn how Latin syntax and grammar differs from English before mastering the basics of Latin inflection, including three noun declensions and all four verb conjugations. These grammar fundamentals will be reinforced through consistent translation of sentences, both from Latin to English and from English to Latin.

Throughout the course, we will be reading texts from authors such as Cicero, Catullus, and Caesar while also familiarizing ourselves with stories from Roman mythology.

In addition to becoming comfortable with Latin, you will also better understand English grammar and possess a richer English vocabulary.

Prerequisites
