LTSP 2A: Intermediate Spanish I


About This Course

This course is for students who have taken a beginning Spanish course in a classroom environment and want to reinforce and enhance their development of communication skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).

Conducted entirely in Spanish, this course will provide you with  ample opportunity to gain confidence communicating in Spanish. There will be a strong emphasis on lear n ing the language within the cultural context using materials from all countries and regions of the Spanish speaking world.  

This course is intended for non-heritage learners. Students with Spanish experience outside of the classroom (at home, in their community) should take our Spanish for Bilingual Speakers course.

This course is offered by the  Literature Department  at UC San Diego. 

Credit: 4 units

What You Will Learn


In this class, you will:

  • Develop a complex understanding and an appreciation for the diversity of Hispanic culture.
  • Develop an intermediate proficiency level in all speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.
  • Develop communicative skills that allow effective interaction and communication in Spanish if you were to travel to a Spanish-speaking country.
  • Expand knowledge of grammar structures, vocabulary, discursive strategies, and cultural norms linked to communication in Spanish.

Prerequisites


This course assumes you have taken a beginning Spanish course in a classroom environment.

Course Meeting Details


Required Live Sessions: None.

There are no required live sessions. The course content (video lectures, discussion prompts, readings, etc.) is delivered asynchronously. There will be an oral interview/exam, which students will do in groups. 

The instructional staff will hold office hours by appointment.
