Admission to the University of California San Diego

Participating in Discover UC San Diego, an UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies educational program, does not provide preference for admission to any University of California degree program. If you are interested in applying to these programs, you should refer to the UCSD Admissions website or the admissions office of the UC campus you wish to attend for details about the admissions process.

Transferring Discover UC San Diego Credit

All Discover UC San Diego courses are taught at the college level and are credit-bearing. All courses are recognized by UC San Diego. The transferability of credit beyond UC San Diego is determined solely by the receiving institution, and students are responsible for communicating with any receiving institution's Registrar’s office about how individual courses may transfer.

Drop Policy

Discover UC San Diego students must submit all drop requests to the Discover UC San Diego Team at discover4hs@ucsd.edu .Notifying the instructor of the intent to drop or not attend does not constitute dropping a course. Drops are effective as of the date one we receive the written request, regardless of when the student ceased attendance.

Students should drop courses before the official drop deadline (Friday of Week 8 of the course) to avoid negatively impacting their academic records. Instructors do not have the authority to drop students who do not attend their courses.

Drop Deadline

UC San Diego Discover courses have course-specific drop deadlines (Friday of week 8); please refer to the course information page or the syllabus to determine the deadline to drop the course without receiving a grade on your academic record. Students may file a petition for a retroactive drop after the drop deadline if they are unable to continue enrollment for various reasons. For more information, view the petition for an exception to drop policy (Student Rights and Responsibilities | Continuing Education | UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies (ucsd.edu)

For further information on any of these policies, please contact the UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies Registrar at (858) 246-3174.

Attendance Policy

Grade Criteria

  • Letter Grade: Each Discover UC San Diego student will be provided a grade between A+ and F that reflects your performance in the course and is included in your grade point average (GPA) calculation. A passing grade counts toward your earned credit hours.
  • Grade Changes and Appeals: All grades are determined by the instructor and considered final when submitted. An instructor may request a change to a final grade if there has been an error in the calculation or transcription of the grade.
  • Grade Appeal Procedure: Discover UC San Diego students who believe their grade was improperly assigned or received a grade based on non-academic criteria have the right to question and appeal the final grade. Grounds for an appeal are limited to an administrative error; work turned in to the instructor that was not included in the total score, and/or improper grading procedures. No grade may be changed more than one calendar year from when it was recorded.

For more information, view our Grade Appeal Procedure.
